Bromsgrove Astronomy Society.

BASOC, the Bromsgrove Astronomical Society, caters for Astronomers of all ages and experience in the local area.

We have many members ranging from highly seasoned amateurs to those without telescopes at all - so don't feel too intimidated to pop along one evening, every 3rd Monday of the month at the Bromsgrove Rugby Club in Finstall.  The Rugby Club is a fantastic venue and offers dark skies with a good southern view.  If you're not sure where we are take a look on Google Maps, society location for more info.

The normal monthly event consists of a talk by a prominent speaker or other Astro related activity, such as a quiz or technical evening.  We start the evenings at 8pm sharp and continue until at least 10pm, often much later if weather permits good sky viewing.  Full details of our upcoming events can be found in the society calendar on this site.

Doors are usually open at 7:30 or a little after. The first 15 minutes is usually a little hectic as we set up seating etc. So if you are new please excuse us if we are a little slow in greeting you, but rest assured someone will get round to welcoming you.

At our first event in October 2008 we attracted over 70 visitors and membership now stands at a healthy 40+ making us one of the largest astro societies in the country.  We hope to continue attracting new interest and welcome anyone to pop along one evening soon.

In addition to our regular monthly meetings we also have the occasional 'viewing' evening. The idea here is to bring our scopes along to enjoy the night sky. The more experienced observers are always willing to help less experienced with their set up and in finding the way round the night sky. Of course these being observing evenings arranged in advance the sky is usually wall to wall cloud, in which case we just chat inside over tea and biscuits. A great chance to discuss and sort out problems.
